Scale
Main Ingredients
- 2 Tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 lb. bottom round steak (or London broil, thin-cut, cut into ½-inch pieces)
- 1 cup onion (chopped)
- 1 tsp garlic (minced)
- 1 10.5 oz. can cream of mushroom soup
- ½ cup water
- ½ tsp garlic salt
- Parsley (chopped for garnish)
- 2-3 cups cooked rice (hot for serving)
Instructions
- Heat the oil: Into a dutch or cast iron skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat to prepare for browning the beef.
- Brown the steak: Add the thinly sliced steak pieces to the skillet and stir frequently, cooking until browned on all sides to seal in the juices.
- Sauté the onion: Add the chopped onion to the skillet and cook until tender, about 1 to 2 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Cook garlic: Stir in the minced garlic and sauté for an additional 1 minute to release its aroma.
- Add soup mixture: In a separate bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup, water, and garlic salt; pour this mixture over the meat and onions, stirring well to evenly coat.
- Simmer: Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat, then reduce the heat to low to cook slowly and develop flavor.
- Cover and cook until tender: Cover the skillet and simmer, stirring occasionally and scraping the bottom of the skillet to prevent sticking, for about 45 minutes or until the beef is tender.
- Serve: Spoon the beef tips and mushroom sauce over the hot cooked rice, and garnish with freshly chopped parsley for a pop of color and freshness.
Notes
- Use a dutch oven or heavy skillet for even heat distribution and to prevent burning.
- Stir occasionally and scrape the skillet bottom to avoid burning and sticking during simmering.
- If preferred, substitute cream of mushroom soup with a homemade mushroom sauce for a fresher taste.
- Adjust garlic salt to taste or replace with regular salt plus garlic powder if unavailable.
- This dish pairs well with steamed vegetables or a fresh green salad for a complete meal.
