These Cheeseburger Tater Tot Nachos combine crispy baked tater tots topped with seasoned ground beef, melted cheddar cheese, and classic cheeseburger toppings for a fun, crowd-pleasing appetizer or game day snack. Perfectly seasoned and loaded with fresh garnishes, this recipe brings cheeseburger flavors to a shareable, easy-to-make dish.

Ingredients

Scale

Tater Tots

  • 1 (32-ounce) bag frozen tater tots
  • Cooking spray or oil for baking

Beef Mixture

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard

Toppings

  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup diced red onion
  • 1/4 cup diced pickles
  • 1/4 cup chopped tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1/4 cup sour cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven and bake tater tots: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Arrange the frozen tater tots on a baking sheet in a single layer and bake according to the package instructions, about 25 minutes, until they are golden brown and crispy.
  2. Cook and season the ground beef: While the tots are baking, heat a skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook, stirring occasionally, until browned and cooked through, about 6 to 8 minutes. Drain off any excess grease. Season the beef with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Stir in the ketchup and yellow mustard to combine well.
  3. Assemble the nachos: Remove the tater tots from the oven and transfer them to a large oven-safe skillet or baking dish, spreading them evenly. Spoon the seasoned beef over the tater tots in an even layer, then sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the top.
  4. Melt the cheese: Return the assembled dish to the oven and bake for an additional 5 to 7 minutes, or until the cheese has melted fully and is bubbling.
  5. Add fresh toppings and serve: Remove the dish from the oven and immediately top with diced red onions, pickles, chopped tomatoes, shredded lettuce, and drizzle with sour cream. Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

  • You can substitute ground beef with ground turkey or plant-based crumbles for a lighter or vegetarian option.
  • Add sliced jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce for a spicy variation.
  • Customize with your favorite burger toppings like bacon bits, avocado, or extra cheese.
