Ingredients
Scale
Chicken and Marinade
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 8 shiso leaves, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon honey
- Salt and pepper to taste
Garnish
- Sesame seeds for garnish
- Sliced green onions for garnish
Instructions
- Season the Chicken: Season both sides of the chicken breasts lightly with salt and pepper to enhance flavor and prepare for marinating.
- Prepare the Marinade: In a bowl, combine minced garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, and honey. Place the chicken in a shallow dish, pour the marinade over it, cover, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to let the flavors fully develop.
- Preheat the Grill: Heat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat, ensuring it’s hot enough to sear the chicken and develop grill marks.
- Grill the Chicken: Remove chicken from marinade, discard excess marinade, and grill for 6-8 minutes per side until cooked through with no pink remaining inside.
- Add Shiso Leaves: During the last few minutes of grilling, sprinkle the finely chopped shiso leaves over the chicken breasts, allowing them to wilt and impart their distinctive flavor.
- Garnish and Serve: Remove the chicken from the grill, transfer to a serving platter, and garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions. Serve hot alongside rice or your favorite side dishes.
Notes
- Marinate the chicken for longer than 30 minutes (up to 2 hours) for a more intense flavor.
- If a grill is not available, use a grill pan or a cast iron skillet to cook the chicken.
- Shiso leaves can be substituted with fresh basil if unavailable, but the flavor will differ slightly.
- Ensure chicken is cooked to an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) for safe consumption.
- Serve with steamed rice or sautéed vegetables for a balanced meal.
