Ingredients
Scale
Pie Crust
- 1 pie crust (9-inch, homemade or store-bought)
Filling
- 2 cups pecans (shelled, coarsely chopped)
- ¾ cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark)
- ¾ cup pure maple syrup
- ¾ cup packed brown sugar (dark)
- 3 large eggs
- 5 Tbsp. butter (melted and cooled)
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- ¼ tsp. salt
- ¾ tsp. ground cinnamon
Toppings
- Whipped cream
- Additional chocolate chips or chocolate shavings
Instructions
- Prepare the Pie Crust: Place the prepared dough into a 9-inch glass or ceramic pie plate. Crimp the edges decoratively and refrigerate while preparing the filling. If using homemade pie crust, follow your preferred recipe before proceeding.
- Fill the Pie: Add the pecans to the bottom of the pie crust in a single layer and sprinkle the chocolate chips over the pecans. In a large bowl, whisk together the maple syrup, brown sugar, eggs, melted butter, vanilla, salt, and cinnamon until well combined. Pour this mixture evenly over the nuts and chocolate chips in the crust.
- Bake the Pie: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the pie for 50-60 minutes, or until the center no longer jiggles when gently shaken. After 20-30 minutes, if the crust edges are browning too fast, cover them with a pie crust shield. If the top begins to brown excessively, loosely tent it with aluminum foil to prevent burning.
- Cool Pie Completely: Remove the pie from the oven and place it on a wire rack. Allow it to cool completely so the filling can set properly before slicing.
- Serve: Serve slices of chocolate chip pecan pie topped with a dollop of whipped cream and sprinkle with additional chocolate chips or chocolate shavings for added texture and flavor.
Notes
- To avoid a soggy crust, ensure the pecans and chocolate chips are in a single layer before pouring the filling.
- Use dark or semi-sweet chocolate chips for a richer flavor.
- Letting the pie cool completely is crucial for clean slices and proper filling consistency.
- Store leftover pie tightly covered at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerated for up to 4 days.
- You can make the pie crust from scratch or use a high-quality store-bought one for convenience.
