Ingredients
Scale
Meat & Protein
- 14 oz (approximately 400g) kielbasa sausage, sliced
Vegetables
- 3 cups broccoli florets
- 1/2 red bell pepper, chopped
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
Dairy
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Liquids & Oils
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 cup chicken broth
Seasonings & Garnish
- Salt and pepper to taste
- A pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped for garnish
Instructions
- Brown the Kielbasa: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced kielbasa sausage and cook until browned on both sides, approximately 5-7 minutes. Once browned, remove the sausage from the skillet and set aside.
- Sauté Onion and Garlic: In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté for about 2 minutes or until the onion becomes translucent and fragrant.
- Cook Vegetables: Add the broccoli florets and chopped red bell pepper to the skillet. Sauté the vegetables for around 5 minutes until they are tender but still crisp.
- Add Cream and Broth: Pour in the heavy cream and chicken broth. Stir to combine and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
- Combine Kielbasa and Sauce: Return the cooked kielbasa sausage to the skillet. Stir well to blend the meat with the creamy vegetable mixture.
- Melt the Cheese: Gradually add the shredded cheddar cheese while stirring until fully melted and the sauce achieves a smooth, creamy consistency.
- Season the Dish: Season the skillet with salt, pepper, and a pinch of red pepper flakes if desired. Adjust seasoning according to your taste.
- Simmer to Meld Flavors: Let the skillet simmer for an additional 2-3 minutes so all the flavors can meld and the dish is heated through thoroughly.
- Garnish and Serve: Finish by sprinkling freshly chopped parsley on top for a burst of color and fresh flavor before serving.
Notes
- For a spicier kick, increase the amount of red pepper flakes or add a dash of hot sauce.
- Use low-fat cream or milk for a lighter version, though the sauce will be less rich.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated gently on the stovetop.
- Pair this skillet dish with crusty bread or steamed rice for a more filling meal.
- Ensure to not overcook the broccoli to maintain its bright color and crunch.
