Description

Crispy Fried Mushrooms with Cool Ranch Dip is a delicious appetizer featuring golden, crunchy mushrooms coated in a flavorful seasoned breadcrumb crust and served with a tangy, herb-filled ranch dip. Perfect for parties or a cozy snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Mushrooms and Breading

  • 1 lb button or cremini mushrooms, cleaned and stems trimmed
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (panko for extra crunch)
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Cool Ranch Dip

  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp dried parsley
  • 1 tbsp dried dill
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp dried chives
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Mushrooms: Pat the cleaned mushrooms dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture which helps the breading adhere better.
  2. Mix the Seasoned Flour: In a shallow dish, combine the all-purpose flour, garlic powder, paprika, onion powder, salt, and pepper to create a flavorful breading base.
  3. Set Up the Breading Station: Whisk together the eggs and milk in a shallow dish. Place the breadcrumbs in a separate shallow dish to facilitate easy coating.
  4. Bread the Mushrooms: Coat each mushroom first in the seasoned flour mixture, shaking off any excess. Then dip into the egg and milk mixture, and finally roll in the breadcrumbs, pressing gently to ensure the coating sticks well.
  5. Heat the Oil: Pour about 1 inch of vegetable oil into a deep skillet or pot and heat it to 350°F (175°C), which is optimal for frying and ensures a crispy exterior.
  6. Fry the Mushrooms: Working in batches to avoid overcrowding, fry the breaded mushrooms for 3-4 minutes until they become golden brown and crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  7. Make the Cool Ranch Dip: In a small bowl, combine sour cream, mayonnaise, dried parsley, dried dill, garlic powder, onion powder, dried chives, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Stir well until all ingredients are blended and adjust seasoning as needed.
  8. Serve: Plate the hot crispy fried mushrooms alongside the cool ranch dip for dipping and enjoy immediately for the best texture and flavor.

Notes

  • For extra crunch, use panko breadcrumbs instead of regular breadcrumbs.
  • Ensure mushrooms are completely dry before breading to prevent sogginess.
  • Fry mushrooms in small batches to maintain oil temperature and avoid soggy coating.
  • The dip can be made ahead and refrigerated to enhance the flavors.
  • Adjust seasoning of the dip to personal taste, adding more herbs or lemon juice for brightness.
