Description

Deliciously rich and smooth Dark Chocolate Coffee Truffles combining the bold flavors of dark chocolate and espresso. These decadent treats are coated in cocoa powder or ground coffee for an extra kick, perfect for coffee and chocolate lovers alike. Easy to make with just a few ingredients and chilled to perfection for a luxurious bite-sized indulgence.

Ingredients

Scale

Truffle Mixture

  • 1/2 cup heavy cream (or coconut cream for a dairy-free option)
  • 1 tablespoon instant coffee or espresso powder
  • 1 cup dark chocolate chips or chopped dark chocolate
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Coating

  • Unsweetened cocoa powder or finely ground coffee, for coating

Instructions

  1. Heat Cream and Dissolve Coffee: In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it begins to simmer. Remove from heat and stir in the instant coffee or espresso powder until fully dissolved, ensuring the coffee flavor is well infused into the cream.
  2. Melt Chocolate with Coffee Cream: Place the dark chocolate chips or chopped dark chocolate into a heatproof bowl. Pour the hot coffee-infused cream over the chocolate and let it sit undisturbed for 1-2 minutes to soften the chocolate. Stir the mixture gently until it becomes smooth and glossy, then add the vanilla extract and mix well.
  3. Chill the Ganache: Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1-2 hours, or until the chocolate mixture is firm enough to scoop and shape easily.
  4. Shape the Truffles: Using a small spoon or melon baller, scoop out portions of the chilled chocolate mixture and roll each into approximately 1-inch balls between your palms.
  5. Coat the Truffles: Roll each truffle ball in unsweetened cocoa powder or finely ground coffee to coat thoroughly. Place the coated truffles on a parchment-lined baking sheet for easy handling.
  6. Final Chill and Serve: Chill the coated truffles in the refrigerator until firm, about 30 minutes. Serve chilled or store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.

Notes

  • For a dairy-free version, substitute heavy cream with coconut cream.
  • Use high-quality dark chocolate (70% cocoa or higher) for the best flavor and texture.
  • Ensure the chocolate mixture is fully chilled before scooping to make shaping easier.
  • Truffles can be stored refrigerated for up to one week in an airtight container.
  • Optionally, you can add a splash of liquor like coffee liqueur or rum for an adult twist.
