Description

Delicious and tender Dr Pepper Wings slow-cooked to perfection in a sweet and spicy sauce made with brown sugar, BBQ sauce, and Dr Pepper soda. These wings are easy to prepare and perfect for gatherings or casual meals, with an optional broil step to add a glossy, caramelized finish.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Wings

  • 4 pounds frozen chicken wings

For the Sauce

  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce
  • 1 cup Dr Pepper
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Wings: Place all the frozen chicken wings directly into your slow cooker in an even layer.
  2. Make the Sauce: In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, minced garlic, BBQ sauce, Dr Pepper, red pepper flakes, and cornstarch. Stir well to integrate the cornstarch without lumps.
  3. Reserve Some Sauce: Set aside 1/4 cup of the prepared sauce for later use.
  4. Cook the Wings: Pour the remaining sauce evenly over the wings in the slow cooker, ensuring all wings are coated.
  5. Slow Cook: Cover and cook on low for 4 to 6 hours, or on high for 3 to 4 hours, until the wings are tender and flavorful.
  6. Optional Broil: If you prefer a glossy finish, place the cooked wings on a foil-lined baking sheet. Brush them with the reserved sauce and broil in your oven for 2 to 4 minutes until glazed and caramelized. Watch carefully to prevent burning.
  7. Garnish: Sprinkle freshly chopped parsley on the wings for an optional fresh, vibrant touch.
  8. Serve: Serve the wings hot and enjoy your sweet and spicy Dr Pepper Wings!

Notes

  • Using frozen wings makes preparation easier, and slow cooking thoroughly cooks the wings while keeping them tender.
  • The optional broil step adds a crispy, caramelized exterior but can be skipped for a softer wing texture.
  • Adjust red pepper flakes to control the spice level according to your taste.
  • Reserve the broth left in the slow cooker as a flavorful dip or drizzle over the wings.
  • Ensure you watch the wings carefully during broiling to avoid burning due to the high sugar content in the sauce.
