Description

Create festive and fun Green Apple Monsters, a no-cook, kid-friendly snack perfect for Halloween or anytime you want a healthy treat with a creative twist. Crisp green apples are quartered and carved to form monster mouths, filled with creamy peanut butter, cheese ‘fangs,’ pumpkin or sunflower seed ‘teeth,’ and topped with candy eyes for a spooky, delicious snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Fruits

  • 3 green apples

Spreads

  • 3 tablespoons creamy peanut butter

Dairy

  • 2 ounces sliced cheddar or Colby jack cheese

Seeds

  • 2 tablespoons pumpkin or sunflower seeds

Decorations

  • 1 package candy eyes (about 20 pieces)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Apples: Quarter the green apples and carefully slice off the core and seeds. Cut out a v-shape into the center of each apple quarter to create a ‘mouth’ for the monster. Repeat for all apple pieces.
  2. Apply Peanut Butter: Spread a thin layer of creamy peanut butter inside the carved-out mouths on all apple slices to act as a sticky base for the teeth and cheese.
  3. Add Teeth: Press several pumpkin or sunflower seeds along the top edge inside the mouths to form the monster’s teeth on each apple slice.
  4. Insert Cheese Fangs: Place a small triangular piece of sliced cheddar or Colby jack cheese into each monster mouth to resemble fangs.
  5. Attach Candy Eyes: Use the remaining peanut butter as an adhesive by spreading a small amount on the back of each candy eye and placing them on top of the apple slices to give the monsters their eyes.
  6. Serve Immediately: These spooky Green Apple Monsters are best enjoyed fresh for maximum crunch and appeal.

Notes

  • You can substitute sunflower seeds for pumpkin seeds if preferred or for allergy reasons.
  • Use any firm green apple variety like Granny Smith for the best texture and tartness.
  • For a nut-free version, substitute the peanut butter with sunflower seed butter or cream cheese.
  • Prepare just before serving to prevent the apples from browning; alternatively, dip the apple slices briefly in lemon water to retain color.
  • Adjust the number of candy eyes based on your desired monster look.
