Description

Heaven on Earth Cake is a luscious layered dessert featuring airy angel food cake cubes, creamy vanilla pudding blended with sour cream, a smooth cream cheese mixture, and sweet cherry pie filling. Topped with whipped topping and optional almond slices, this no-bake treat is perfect for gatherings and offers a delightful combination of textures and flavors.

Ingredients

Scale

Base

  • 1 Angel Food Cake (store-bought or homemade)

Pudding Layer

  • 1 box Instant Vanilla Pudding Mix
  • 1 1/2 cups Milk (whole milk recommended for creaminess)
  • 1 cup Sour Cream

Cream Cheese Mixture

  • 8 oz Cream Cheese (softened)
  • 1/2 cup Powdered Sugar

Topping

  • 1 can Cherry Pie Filling
  • 8 oz Whipped Topping
  • Almond Slices (Optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Angel Food Cake: If making from scratch, follow the baking instructions for the angel food cake carefully. If using a pre-made cake, ensure it is fully cooled before proceeding. Cut the cooled angel food cake into 1-inch cubes.
  2. Prepare the Pudding Layer: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the instant vanilla pudding mix and milk until the mixture thickens. Then fold in the sour cream until the mixture is smooth and well combined. Set aside.
  3. Make the Cream Cheese Mixture: Beat the softened cream cheese together with the powdered sugar until the mixture is smooth and creamy, ensuring no lumps remain.
  4. Layer the Cake: In a large serving dish or trifle bowl, start by spreading half of the cubed angel food cake evenly on the bottom.
  5. Add Cream Cheese Mixture: Spread half of the cream cheese mixture evenly over the layer of cake cubes.
  6. Add Pudding Mixture: Spoon half of the prepared pudding mixture over the cream cheese layer and spread gently.
  7. Add Cherry Pie Filling: Spread half of the cherry pie filling evenly over the pudding layer.
  8. Repeat the Layers: Repeat the same layering steps with the remaining angel food cake cubes, cream cheese mixture, pudding mixture, and cherry pie filling, finishing with the cherry pie filling on top.
  9. Chill and Set: Cover the assembled dessert and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight, to allow the layers to set and meld the flavors.
  10. Top with Whipped Topping: Just before serving, spread the whipped topping evenly over the top of the dessert. Garnish with almond slices if desired.
  11. Serve & Enjoy: Slice and serve this decadent and refreshing layered cake to your guests.

Notes

  • This dessert is best served chilled and can be prepared a day ahead for better flavor melding.
  • Use whole milk for richer pudding texture; low-fat milk may alter creaminess.
  • Softening the cream cheese beforehand ensures a smooth, lump-free mixture.
  • Almond slices are optional but add a nice crunch and visual appeal.
  • Leftovers should be stored covered in the refrigerator and consumed within 2-3 days.
