Description

This homemade guacamole recipe is a fresh and flavorful dip made from ripe avocados, tangy lime juice, spicy jalapeño, and crisp vegetables. Easy to prepare in just 10 minutes, it’s perfect for snacking, parties, or as a topping for your favorite Mexican dishes.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 4 large avocados
  • ½ small red onion (about â…“ cup)
  • 1 jalapeño pepper
  • 2-3 Roma tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic (about 3 cloves)
  • 4 Tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • ½ teaspoon fine sea salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • ¼ cup fresh chopped cilantro

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Onion: Slice the onion into thick slices and add them to a large bowl of cold water to soak. This step helps mellow the onion’s sharpness while you prepare the other ingredients.
  2. Mash the Avocados: Peel and pit the avocados, then add them to a large mixing bowl. Use a fork or pastry cutter to mash them to your desired texture, whether smooth or chunky.
  3. Dice Jalapeño and Tomatoes: Remove the inner membranes and seeds from the jalapeño to reduce heat, then dice it along with the Roma tomatoes into small pieces.
  4. Combine Ingredients: Drain the onion slices and dice them finely. Add the diced onion, jalapeño, tomatoes, garlic, lime juice, sea salt, and black pepper to the mashed avocado. Stir gently to mix all ingredients thoroughly.
  5. Add Cilantro and Serve: Fold in the freshly chopped cilantro for a burst of herbal flavor. Serve immediately to enjoy the freshest taste.

Notes

  • For a spicier guacamole, leave some seeds in the jalapeño or add extra slices to taste.
  • To prevent browning, press a piece of plastic wrap directly on the guacamole surface if not serving immediately.
  • This guacamole is best served fresh but can be refrigerated for up to 1 day.
  • If you prefer a smoother texture, use a food processor instead of mashing by hand.
