Ingredients
Scale
Flatbread Base
- 2 pieces small flatbreads (Naan or other; Pita can also be used)
Toppings
- 2 Bartlett pears (can substitute with Anjou)
- 1 medium sweet onion (like Maui; Vidalia or yellow onion are good substitutes)
- 4 ounces gorgonzola cheese (crumbled; feta or goat cheese can be substituted)
- 1/2 cup walnuts (chopped; pecans can be used for a sweeter taste)
- 2 cups fresh spinach leaves (or arugula; kale or mixed greens can be substituted)
Additional Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons olive oil (extra virgin recommended)
- 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar (drizzle, optional; skip if a cleaner taste is preferred)
Instructions
- Prepare the Ingredients: Thinly slice the Bartlett pears and medium sweet onion. Chop the walnuts coarsely. Rinse and pat dry the fresh spinach leaves.
- Saute Onions: Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sauté until they soften and become translucent, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat.
- Assemble the Flatbreads: Place the flatbreads on a baking sheet. Brush each flatbread with the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil to ensure crispiness during baking.
- Add Toppings: Evenly distribute the sautéed onions over each flatbread. Layer the sliced pears, followed by sprinkling the crumbled Gorgonzola cheese and chopped walnuts. Finally, add the fresh spinach leaves on top.
- Bake the Flatbreads: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake the flatbreads in the oven for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are crisp and the cheese is slightly melted.
- Finish and Serve: Remove the flatbreads from the oven and drizzle with balsamic vinegar if desired. Slice each flatbread into four pieces and serve warm for a delightful mix of flavors and textures.
Notes
- You can substitute the flatbread with pita or other similar bread if preferred.
- For a vegetarian option, ensure the cheese used fits dietary preferences.
- Pecans can replace walnuts for a sweeter nut flavor.
- Skip the balsamic vinegar drizzle for a cleaner, less tangy taste.
- Leftover flatbreads can be stored in the refrigerator and reheated in the oven to maintain crispness.
