Description

A creamy, cheesy jalapeno popper dip that’s perfectly spicy and crunchy, ideal for parties and gatherings. This baked dip combines cream cheese, sour cream, melted cheeses, chopped jalapenos, and green chilies with a crispy panko and Parmesan topping, making it a crowd-pleasing appetizer served warm with chips or crackers.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 16 oz. cream cheese (two 8 oz packages, softened)
  • ¼ cup sour cream
  • 1 cup Mexican cheese blend (or pepper jack cheese)
  • 4-8 oz. chopped green chilies (1-2 4 oz cans, drained)
  • 1-2 jalapenos, ribs and seeds removed, minced

Topping

  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • ½ cup panko bread crumbs
  • 1 tablespoon butter, melted

Garnishes

  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
  • ½ cup chopped or sliced canned or fresh jalapeno peppers
  • Chips, crackers, or crudités for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare dish: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly spray a 9-inch pie plate or baking dish with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Mix the dip ingredients: In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, Mexican cheese blend, chopped green chilies, and minced jalapenos. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are evenly incorporated into a smooth, creamy mixture.
  3. Prepare topping and assemble: In a separate small bowl, mix the grated Parmesan cheese, panko bread crumbs, and melted butter until evenly combined. Spread the cream cheese mixture into the prepared baking dish and sprinkle the panko-Parmesan topping evenly over the surface.
  4. Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 20-25 minutes or until the topping is golden brown and crispy and the dip is bubbly around the edges.
  5. Garnish and serve: Remove from oven and sprinkle with chopped fresh parsley and additional chopped or sliced jalapenos for color and extra heat. Serve warm with chips, crackers, or fresh crudités for dipping.

Notes

  • For less heat, reduce the number of jalapenos or omit the seeds and ribs as listed.
  • You can substitute the Mexican cheese blend with sharp cheddar and Monterey Jack if unavailable.
  • Panko bread crumbs can be toasted separately for an extra crunch if desired.
  • Allow the dip to cool slightly before serving to let it thicken a bit.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated and reheated gently in the microwave or oven.
