Ingredients

Meat and Vegetables
- 1 pound ground beef
- 6 strips bacon, diced
- 1/2 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
Dairy and Eggs
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
- 4 large eggs
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
Seasonings and Condiments
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Optional Garnish
- Chopped green onions
- Diced tomatoes
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the casserole.
- Cook Bacon: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the diced bacon until crisp. Remove with a slotted spoon and set aside, keeping the bacon grease in the skillet.
- Sauté Onions and Garlic: In the same skillet with bacon grease, add the chopped onion and minced garlic, cooking until the onion turns translucent and fragrant.
- Cook Ground Beef: Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned and fully cooked through. Drain any excess grease from the beef mixture.
- Combine Bacon and Beef: Stir the cooked bacon back into the beef mixture and set aside to cool slightly.
- Prepare Egg Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, yellow mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper until completely combined.
- Assemble Casserole: Spread the beef and bacon mixture evenly into a greased 8×8-inch baking dish.
- Add Cheese Layer: Sprinkle 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the meat mixture.
- Pour Egg Mixture: Carefully pour the egg mixture over the cheese and meat, allowing it to soak into the mixture.
- Top with Cheese: Add the remaining 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese on top.
- Bake: Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the casserole is set and the cheese on top is bubbly and golden brown.
- Cool and Serve: Remove the casserole from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
- Optional Garnish: Garnish with chopped green onions and diced tomatoes for added freshness and color.
Notes
- For a sharper flavor, feel free to use sharp cheddar cheese.
- You can substitute bacon with turkey bacon for a leaner option.
- Make sure to drain excess grease well to keep the casserole from becoming too oily.
- If you don’t have Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce can be a good alternative.
- This casserole can be prepared a day ahead and reheated before serving.
