Description

These Marinated Soy Eggs are a delicious and flavorful addition to ramen bowls, rice dishes, or can be enjoyed as a savory snack. Soft-boiled or hard-boiled eggs are soaked in a savory-sweet soy sauce marinade infused with garlic, green onions, sesame oil, and optional red chili flakes. This easy recipe requires minimal prep and yields perfectly marinated eggs bursting with umami.

Ingredients

Scale

Eggs

  • 6 boiled eggs

Marinade

  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 4 green onions, thinly sliced
  • ½ cup soy sauce
  • ½ cup water
  • â…“ cup honey or maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 1-2 teaspoons red chili pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Boil Water: Bring a large pot of water to a rolling boil to prepare for cooking the eggs.
  2. Cook Eggs: Using a slotted spoon, carefully place eggs into boiling water. Cook according to your preferred doneness: 6-7 minutes for soft-boiled, 8-9 minutes for medium, or 10-12 minutes for hard-boiled eggs.
  3. Ice Bath: Immediately transfer eggs to an ice bath or a bowl of cold water to stop the cooking process and make peeling easier.
  4. Peel Eggs: Once cooled, gently peel the eggs, making sure to keep the whites intact.
  5. Prepare Marinade: In a medium container, whisk together soy sauce, water, honey or maple syrup, rice vinegar, minced garlic, sesame seeds, sesame oil, and optional chili flakes until well combined.
  6. Marinate Eggs: Place peeled eggs into the marinade, ensuring they are fully submerged for even flavor absorption.
  7. Refrigerate: Cover and refrigerate the eggs for at least 6 hours, preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to deeply penetrate the eggs.
  8. Serve: Enjoy these marinated soy eggs as a topping for ramen, served over rice, or as a flavorful snack on their own.

Notes

  • You can adjust the marinade sweetness by substituting honey with maple syrup or adjusting the amount to taste.
  • For spicier eggs, increase the red chili pepper flakes as preferred.
  • Marinate for at least 6 hours, but overnight provides the best flavor infusion.
  • Use soft, medium, or hard-boiled eggs depending on your texture preference.
  • Store marinated eggs in the refrigerator and consume within 3-4 days for optimal freshness.
