Ingredients
Scale
Puff Pastry
- 1 package prepared puff pastry sheets (usually 2 sheets)
Filling and Topping
- ¾ cup Nutella hazelnut spread
- 2 large eggs (1 for egg wash, 1 for filling and wash)
- 3 tablespoons confectioners’ sugar (for dusting)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it reaches the ideal temperature for puff pastry baking.
- Prepare Puff Pastry: Unroll the puff pastry sheets onto a lightly floured surface to prevent sticking, then cut each sheet into 4 equal squares, making 8 squares in total.
- Add Nutella Filling: Place about 1-2 tablespoons of Nutella in the center of each pastry square, spreading slightly but keeping it mainly in the middle to avoid spilling during baking.
- Apply Egg Wash on Edges: Lightly beat one egg and use a pastry brush to coat the edges of each pastry square; this will help seal the folded edges firmly.
- Fold Pastries: Fold each square diagonally into a triangle or fold into a rectangle (your choice), pressing the edges firmly to seal the filling inside, preventing leaks during baking.
- Arrange on Baking Sheet: Place the sealed pastries onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper to avoid sticking and ensure even cooking.
- Brush with Egg Wash: Beat the second egg and brush the tops of the pastries to give them a glossy, golden finish once baked.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes until the puff pastry is puffed, golden-brown, and flaky.
- Cool and Dust: Remove the pastries from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes on a wire rack; then dust evenly with confectioners’ sugar for added sweetness and presentation.
- Serve: Serve warm or at room temperature and enjoy these indulgent Nutella-filled puff pastries.
Notes
- You can freeze unbaked puff pastries for later baking; just thaw before baking and proceed as usual.
- Make sure to seal the edges well to prevent Nutella from leaking out during baking.
- If you prefer, you can sprinkle some chopped hazelnuts on top before baking for added crunch.
- Use cold puff pastry sheets to handle them easily and ensure proper puffing in the oven.
