Description

These OMG Taco Cupcakes are a fun and delicious twist on traditional tacos, featuring layers of seasoned ground beef and melted cheese baked inside crispy wonton wrappers. Perfect as a party appetizer or a family-friendly meal, they are topped with sour cream, salsa, and fresh green onions for a burst of flavor in every bite.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat & Seasoning

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 packet taco seasoning

Cheese

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese

Wrappers

  • 24 wonton wrappers

Toppings

  • ½ cup sour cream
  • ½ cup salsa
  • ¼ cup chopped green onions
  • Diced tomatoes, for garnish
  • Sliced jalapeños, for garnish
  • Avocado or guacamole, for garnish
  • Cilantro, for garnish
  • Hot sauce, for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a muffin tin to prevent sticking and help the taco cupcakes release easily after baking.
  2. Cook the Beef: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until it is fully browned. Drain off any excess fat. Add the taco seasoning with a splash of water, then simmer for 2 to 3 minutes to let the flavors meld and the sauce thicken.
  3. Assemble Taco Cups: Press one wonton wrapper into each cup of the greased muffin tin to form a shell. Spoon a portion of the seasoned beef into the wrapper, sprinkle some of both cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese, then top with a second wonton wrapper. Add another layer of beef and finish with a final sprinkle of cheese.
  4. Bake: Place the muffin tin in the oven and bake for 15 to 18 minutes, or until the wonton edges turn golden brown and crispy, and the cheese has melted and bubbles.
  5. Finish and Serve: Remove the taco cupcakes from the oven and let cool for about 5 minutes. Top each cupcake with sour cream, salsa, and chopped green onions. Garnish with diced tomatoes, sliced jalapeños, avocado or guacamole, cilantro, and serve with hot sauce if desired.

Notes

  • Ensure to drain excess fat from the beef to prevent sogginess in the wonton wrappers.
  • Wonton wrappers may vary in size; adjust quantities to ensure each muffin cup is properly lined.
  • These taco cupcakes can be made ahead and reheated in the oven for a few minutes before serving.
  • Customize toppings according to your preference, including additional fresh herbs or different types of cheese.
  • For extra crispiness, brush the wonton wrappers lightly with oil before baking.
