Ingredients
Scale
Cake
- 1 box (15.25 ounces) chocolate cake mix (such as Betty Crocker’s Chocolate Fudge cake mix, includes eggs, oil, and water as per box directions)
Pudding Topping
- 2 boxes (4 ounces each) Instant Oreo pudding mix
- 3 cups milk (2% or whole milk)
Finishing Touches
- 1 tub (8 ounces) whipped topping (Cool Whip), thawed
- 6 Oreo cookies, crushed
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Spray a 9×13-inch baking pan with non-stick cooking spray and set it aside to prepare the cake batter.
- Make and Bake Cake: Prepare the chocolate cake batter according to the instructions on the cake mix box, including the required eggs, oil, and water. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake as directed, usually until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Once baked, allow the cake to cool for about 10 minutes.
- Poke Holes and Prepare Pudding: Using the handle of a wooden spoon or spatula, poke holes evenly all over the warm cake, spacing them at least an inch apart. In a medium bowl, combine the two boxes of Instant Oreo pudding mix with 3 cups of milk. Whisk the mixture until it thickens and is well combined, which should take about one minute. The pudding may be slightly lumpy due to the Oreo bits in the mix.
- Add Pudding to Cake: Pour the prepared Oreo pudding evenly over the warm cake. Use the back of a spoon to spread the pudding all over the cake and gently push it down into the holes to soak into the cake layers.
- Top with Whipped Topping and Oreos: Evenly spread the thawed whipped topping over the pudding layer. Then sprinkle the crushed Oreo cookies on top for added texture and flavor.
- Chill: Refrigerate the assembled cake for at least one hour before serving to allow the pudding to set and flavors to meld.
- Serve: Slice the cake into 12 servings, serve chilled, and enjoy this rich and creamy dessert!
Notes
- Use either 2% or whole milk for best pudding consistency.
- Make sure to poke holes evenly spaced so the pudding can seep well into the cake.
- Allow cake to cool slightly before poking holes to avoid burning yourself.
- Chilling the cake for longer than one hour will enhance flavor and texture.
- Crushed Oreos on top add a nice crunchy contrast but can be adjusted or omitted if preferred.
