Description

This classic Red Wine Sangria recipe combines dry red wine with brandy, orange liqueur, fresh citrus slices, mixed berries, and diced apple for a refreshing and fruity beverage. It’s perfect for gatherings, allowing the flavors to meld beautifully when chilled, then topped off with soda water for a sparkling finish.

Ingredients

Scale

Liquids

  • 1 bottle of dry red wine (750ml)
  • 1/4 cup brandy
  • 1/4 cup orange liqueur (such as triple sec or Cointreau)
  • 2 cups soda water or lemon-lime soda

Fruits

  • 1 orange, sliced
  • 1 lemon, sliced
  • 1 lime, sliced
  • 1 cup of mixed berries (such as strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries)
  • 1 apple, diced

Others

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • Ice cubes
  • Fresh mint leaves, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the container. Begin by selecting a large pitcher or mixing bowl that will comfortably hold all the ingredients.
  2. Add the wine. Pour the entire bottle of dry red wine into the pitcher.
  3. Mix the spirits. Add the orange liqueur and brandy to the wine. Stir well to combine.
  4. Dissolve the sugar. Gradually mix in the granulated sugar, stirring until it is completely dissolved to sweeten the sangria evenly.
  5. Add the fruit. Add the sliced orange, lemon, lime, mixed berries, and diced apple to the wine mixture. Stir gently to combine all the fruits evenly without bruising them.
  6. Chill to infuse. Cover the pitcher with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, allowing the flavors to meld together. For best results, let it sit overnight to deepen the taste.
  7. Prepare serving glasses. When ready to serve, fill each glass with ice cubes to keep the sangria refreshingly cold.
  8. Serve the sangria. Pour the sangria over the ice, filling each glass about 3/4 full to leave room for the soda.
  9. Add the fizz. Top each glass with a splash of soda water or lemon-lime soda for a refreshing fizz that brightens the drink.
  10. Garnish and enjoy. Garnish with fresh mint leaves if desired. Stir gently and enjoy your vibrant and fruity sangria.

Notes

  • For a sweeter sangria, use lemon-lime soda instead of soda water.
  • Allowing the sangria to chill overnight enhances the flavor infusion.
  • Fresh mint is optional but adds a fresh aromatic note.
  • Use a dry red wine like Rioja or Cabernet Sauvignon for best results.
  • Adjust sugar quantity based on personal preference and sweetness of the fruit.
