Description
A refreshing and creamy Greek tzatziki sauce made with sour cream or Greek yogurt, grated and drained cucumber, fresh dill, lemon juice, olive oil, and a touch of salt. Perfect as a dip, sauce, or accompaniment to grilled meats and vegetables.
Ingredients
Scale
Base
- 1 cup sour cream (or Greek Yogurt)
Vegetables and Herbs
- 1 cup English cucumber (grated and drained)
- 2 tablespoons fresh dill (chopped)
Seasoning and Flavoring
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (extra virgin olive oil preferred)
- ½ teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Prepare the cucumber: Grate the cucumber using a box grater without peeling it. Place the grated cucumber in a cheesecloth or paper towels and squeeze out all excess moisture carefully to prevent the sauce from becoming watery over time.
- Combine ingredients: In a medium bowl, mix together the sour cream, the thoroughly drained grated cucumber, chopped fresh dill, fresh lemon juice, olive oil, and salt. Alternatively, pulse everything gently in a food processor for a smoother texture.
- Let flavors meld: Allow the tzatziki sauce to sit for at least 5 minutes before serving. This resting time helps the flavors to blend beautifully. Optionally, drizzle additional olive oil on top when serving.
Notes
- Make sure to drain the grated cucumber well to avoid a watery sauce.
- You can substitute sour cream with Greek yogurt for a tangier and healthier option.
- Tzatziki sauce pairs wonderfully with grilled meats, pita bread, or fresh vegetables.
- For a smoother texture, pulse the ingredients briefly in a food processor instead of mixing by hand.
