Ingredients
Scale
Slider Patties
- 1 lb ground beef (80% lean)
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- Salt and pepper to taste
Buns & Toppings
- 12 small slider buns (such as Kings Hawaiian or similar soft buns)
- 6 slices American cheese, cut in half (optional)
- 1 tablespoon mustard (optional)
- 1 tablespoon ketchup (optional)
- 1 tablespoon butter (for toasting buns)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for toasting the slider buns.
- Caramelize Onion: In a large skillet over medium heat, sauté the finely chopped onion in a bit of oil or butter until softened and caramelized, about 10-15 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Toast Buns: Arrange the slider buns on a baking sheet and toast in the preheated oven for about 5 minutes until they are lightly golden.
- Prepare Patty: While the buns toast, form the ground beef into one large flat patty roughly the size of your baking sheet. Season both sides with salt and pepper evenly.
- Cook Patty: Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat, then place the beef patty onto it. Cook for about 4-5 minutes per side until browned and cooked through in the center.
- Cut Patty: Once cooked, transfer the patty to a cutting board and slice into 12 square portions, sized to fit each slider bun.
- Assemble Sliders: Place each beef square on a toasted bun bottom. Top with a spoonful of caramelized onion, half a slice of American cheese, and add mustard or ketchup if using. Finish by placing the bun top on each slider.
- Serve: Serve the sliders immediately while warm and enjoy the classic White Castle flavor at home!
Notes
- Make sure to caramelize onions slowly to maximize flavor without burning.
- Using a single large patty ensures uniform size and quick cooking compared to individual small patties.
- Slider buns like King’s Hawaiian add a slight sweetness that complements the savory beef and onions.
- Cheese, mustard, and ketchup are optional but recommended for authentic White Castle flavor.
- Serve immediately for best texture as buns may get soggy after sitting.
