Ready in just 20 minutes, it’s a quick and delicious meal that brings authentic Mexican flavors to your table.

Ingredients

Scale

Marinade

  • ¼ cup Avocado Oil
  • â…“ cup Soy Sauce
  • Juice of ½ a Grapefruit
  • Juice of 1 Lemon
  • Juice of 2 Limes
  • Juice of 1 Orange
  • 3 Cloves Garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh Cilantro, chopped
  • ¼ cup Brown Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cumin
  • 1 teaspoon Chili Powder

Steak

  • 1 tablespoon Avocado Oil
  • 2 pounds Marinated Flank Steak or Skirt Steak

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Marinade: In a large bowl, whisk together the avocado oil, soy sauce, grapefruit juice, lemon juice, lime juice, orange juice, minced garlic, chopped cilantro, brown sugar, salt, black pepper, ground cumin, and chili powder until well combined.
  2. Marinate the Steak: Place the flank or skirt steak into the marinade, ensuring it is fully submerged. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to penetrate the meat. For best results, marinate for 2-4 hours or overnight.
  3. Preheat the Grill: Heat your grill to medium-high heat. This will help achieve a nice char and retain the steak’s juiciness.
  4. Grill the Steak: Remove the steak from the marinade, pat it dry slightly with paper towels, and brush with 1 tablespoon of avocado oil. Place the steak on the grill and cook for approximately 4-5 minutes per side, or until it reaches your preferred level of doneness (medium rare is recommended).
  5. Rest the Steak: Transfer the steak to a cutting board and let it rest for 5-10 minutes to allow the juices to redistribute, ensuring a tender and flavorful bite.
  6. Slice and Serve: Slice the steak thinly against the grain to maximize tenderness. Serve immediately with your favorite sides such as grilled vegetables, tortillas, or a fresh salad.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, marinate the steak overnight.
  • You can substitute flank steak with skirt steak for similar results.
  • If you don’t have a grill, use a cast-iron skillet over high heat for cooking.
  • Be sure to slice against the grain to keep the steak tender.
  • Adjust the chili powder to your preferred spice level.
